Many teens these days are using lingo online. They use slang terms that I don't even understand and cant comprehend. I have never really chatted online or used these slang terms. I was always outside doing something. I have never really like computers and still I try to stay away from them.
I believe that kids these days are not using proper grammar and periods. Since they use this lingo online and on their phones its contradicting their work in the classroom. Using this lingo doesn't help them at all in the classroom. One teacher reported that " They talk with abbreviated words and run on sentences with no punctuation. I call it speed talking, and it's starting to carry over into their homework," she says. I believe that this "speed talking" will only increase with all the new technologies that are to come in this near future. The cell phones don't help either, this is just a easier way for young teens to use "Lingo". Also the cell phones that have the Internet will only distract this young culture. I cant believe that Garret can surf the net, download music, chat up to twenty of his friends and do his homework at the same time. That crazy, i cant multitask like that I never been able to and probably never will. Kids these days can do amazing things at one time but its only lowering their attention span, on the other hand I have friends that use abbreviations and lingo all the time. My friends have always use this lingo and somehow they always do better in school and on papers. I don't understand maybe since they are constantly reading and writing when they talk online and text it still helps them in a way. It still allows them to write and read and since their doing so much of it I guess that it only brightens their knowledge in certain aspects.
I'm not saying that I have great focus and great grammar because I don't use lingo. That's not true at all, because i don't. I bet that i will still have grammar mistakes and errors in this blog. What I'm trying to say is that this lingo will only provoke these young teens from using correct grammar, its not helping the cause.

You've got a lot of great ideas here, and have obviously done the reading.
ReplyDeleteI sometimes felt lost in your writing. You tended to skip around a lot with your ideas. It would be good to read over your writing and make sure all of your similar ideas are in the same section of the blog.
Let's see....I don't think that cell phones and internet are taking away kids attention spans. Without these things kids would be bored! I know I would be! I can multitask so I know where garrett is coming from! Some kids might take it to extremes but most don't! I feel most kids now the line between work and play!
