Lost In Translation

Vassilij Gavbov is a middle age Siberian man who speaks his ancient language of Chulym. he is lost in translation, he has been trying to find any elders or followers of this language for years. Gavbov wants to find clarification and unity by finding anyone who speaks Chulym. Gavbov wants to preserve his language so that it can live on. He found a ninety six year old women who speaks Chulym but she is deaf. He worries that he will not be able to keep this tradition alive.
K David Harrison is a specialist in Tu van and Siberian languages seeking Chulym speakers. He and Gavbov have been looking for anyone who would has spoken this language. Their chances are slim because the language has been dissipating for decades. Chulym language was mostly spoken in the country of Russia. Unfortunately ever since Joseph Stalin was in power the soviet union has banned the language. Joseph Stalin ordered Siberian and Chulym children to attend boarding schools and eliminated the instruction of any non Russian languages. This language was look at as a gutter language and was to be forgotten.
Fortunately Gavbov began to write down writing his language in a journal using the Russian alphabet. He showed this to Russian acquaintances but the just turned him down. Luckily Gavbov showed this material to Harrison who began to publish a children's book and kept the language living.
I believe that what Gavbov and Harrison are doing is extremely important. Culture is something that should be cherished and respected. But sadly this cultures language of Chulym was banned and prohibited. By Gavbov taking action and reaching out to look for fellow speakers is important to him and history. Its vital to the world that this language does not die. We can learn much from other languages and cultures. Since the Chulym language was saved and published in children's books it now can be used in schools to reteach the language to the up coming culture.
I believe that everyone should take pride in their culture and respect others beliefs. People should be more open minded and take risk to learn about other cultures and their beliefs. If everyone did this it would settle much conflict. I'm not saying that we have to agree with every ones cultures I'm saying that we should tolerate, respect and understand it.

  1. The last two paragraphs are really beginning to engage the material and think about what the essay is writing about. The rest of your post is summary, and these blogs are more about your thoughts than what the essay said.
